Between the booming laughter, the impressive stage presence and the truly emotive performance, one can’t criticise any part of the performance as it blends so well together.

Horse is best enjoyed in a large group of friends with a good sense of humour (as most Fringe shows should be).

If the words horse, nudity, crude, sexual, burlesque and comedy take your fancy, definitely pop into see Horse, the dark, quizzical comedy by Flick Ferdinando and Company FZ.

Flick Ferdinando’s one woman (or one horse) performance is probably one of the most abstract shows of the Fringe Festival this year, and in all honesty one of the must sees as well. While Horse might not be for everyone, it is definitely a show audiences walk away from thankful they went to. Between the booming laughter, the impressive stage presence and the truly emotive performance, one can’t criticise any part of the performance as it blends so well together. Although it was an enjoyable performance, I felt it lacked a plot. It’s a strange feeling to sit in a theatre and watch a show with the utmost attention for 55 minutes and at the end, realise, in all honesty, you have no idea what is going on. That doesn’t mean Horse isn’t good, in fact far from it. Horse is emotive, funny, engaging and intriguing.

If you’re going to see Horse because you like horses, you would probably want to rethink your choice, as it’s not really a show about horses, but a show which uses horses to tell its story (if this doesn’t make sense to you, don’t worry, it doesn’t make sense to me either).

Horse is best enjoyed in a large group of friends with a good sense of humour (as most Fringe shows should be). It’s also worth noting that Horse has come all the way from the UK and might not grace our shores ever again, another great reason to pop down and enjoy the show. Horse is running at the Queens Theatre on Playhouse Lane in the City, from now until the 18th of March.

This exciting show is a blend of comedy, music, and physical routines, and if it was the title that drew your attention you won't be disappointed. Flick Ferdinando is an extraordinarily talented performer, delivering a succession of horse impressions, horse-inspired monologues, comic songs about horses, and horse related circus routines. The whole thing is very much an exploration of horse obsession, and it all gets quite dark at times; Udderbelly's Hullabaloo provides the ideal location for this engaging melange. Expect to be entertained, expect to be disturbed, and expect to laugh a lot. The moment when she had an orgasm over reading aloud from 'How to Ride' probably sums it up quite well.
